The founder of the Ron Abuelo distillery first started the production in 1908 in Pese. This was founded in the newly formed Republic of Panama. The main activity of the 10,000 strong population of Panama is cultivating Sugar Cane.
In 1936 Don Jose followed through with his promise to the eldest 3 of his children and began to distilled the Sugar cane. Almost 100 years later and the production of this Sugar Cane distillation still occurs, and remains the way it has done.
