Girolama Luxardo was sent from Genova to Zara to be consular representative of the Kingdom of Sardinia. He was sent here with his family in 1817 where his wife Maria Canevari found an interest in perfecting a Maraschino Liqueur. In 1821 Girolama founded the Luxardo distillery and started to produce the Maraschino Liqueur.
This distillery was passed down from generation to generation with each adding their own spirits in and creating the brand that is still well known and loved to this day.
