William Grant first founded William Grant & Sons and opened his first distillery in 1887. His vision was simple and difficult, this was to create the best dram in the valley, with many believing he did just that! This belief and motivation still runs through the Girvan Distillery to this day!

The Girvan distillery was first built in 1963 under the instructions of Charles Gordon, William Grants great Grandson. This was the most advanced distillery of its time with the very first still continuing to create their 'No.1 Apps' Whisky to this day! The distillery has remained open to this day with 4 other stills being added in the following 50 years!
