Madeira wine is a fortified wine from the Portuguese Island of Madeira. Unlike its better known mainland sibling Port, Madeira wine comes in all styles from dry through to sweet.
However, this is a truly classic sweet wine that is now 20 years old, cask aged for a minimum of 15 years before bottling. This is a premium, single grape varietal wine, produced by the Canteiro process where the wine is in large wine casks which are initially stored for a minimum of 2 years in the warm attic spaces of the wine lodges, so that they reach a high temperature.
The wine is later moved to a cooler area to be rested and aged before bottling. Madeira wine continues to age in the cask indefinitely and although it is 21 years old, it will have the ability to stay drinkable indefinitely. Madeira wine does not deteriorate once opened and so is an ideal by the glass serve.
Winner of the Concours Mondial du Bruxelles 2018 Grand Gold Medal. This is a classic 'Malmsey' Madeira, with flavours of succulent Dried Fruits, Almonds and Walnuts.
The rich, mouth-filling sweetness is finely balanced with the Acidity, making this an unrivalled accompaniment to spiced Fruit Puddings or Chocolate.
