cardhu

Cardhu distiller was first founded in 1811 by John and Helen Cummings, however they did not start their full production until 1824 when the Excise Act of 1823 reduces duty meaning that small scale distillers like Cardhu can obtain a license, which the Cummings shortly did. After advice from his son Lewis, John decides to buy bigger stills which can help to create a better product.

Due to the size of Cardhu they do not have any distribution routes, however their friend George Smith who is the founder of Glenlivet bought and distributed this for them until they found their own. 1846 arrives and John sadly passes away leaving the running to Lewis.

Lewis passes away in 1872 leaving his mother, wife and two children on their own. Elizabeth his wife takes over the distillery and leads it into success!
